Vice President stresses need to educate young people about Indian culture and tradition

Hyderabad, October 17 (PTI): Vice President Mr. Venkaiah Naidu said on Sunday that the country’s pluralistic culture has the power to unite people by overcoming various social divisions in society. Naidu, participant in “Alai Balai”, a cultural event organized as part of the Dasara festivities here, called to encourage young people to be aware of tradition, culture and to defend unity in diversity, according to an official press release.

He called for honoring the legacy of great leaders and drawing inspiration from their lives to protect pluralistic culture. The governor of Telangana, Tamilisai Soundararajan, opened the event. Haryana Governor Bandaru Dattatreya, Himachal Pradesh Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, as well as Union Culture and Tourism Minister G Kishan Reddy, Telangana Interior Minister Mohammed Mahmood Ali and leaders of different political parties attended.

The event was organized by Vijayalaxmi, Dattatreya’s daughter, who is also chair of the “Dattanna Alai Balai” celebration committee.

Dattatreya conceptualized the “Alai Balai” program to bring together people from various backgrounds on a common platform. The program has been held here since 2005.
