New Delhi, May 9 (IANS): Delhi BJP Chairman Adesh Gupta said on Monday that Congress and AAP’s opposition to the anti-encroachment campaign in Shaheen Bagh proves they are supporters of Rohingyas and Bangladeshis.
The BJP-led South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) has waged an anti-encroachment campaign in Shaheen Bagh here amid protests from locals this morning.
Addressing a press conference at the party headquarters here, Gupta said: “The way Congress and the AAP tried to stop the anti-encroachment campaign shows their support for the Rohingyas and the Bangladeshis. Those who lay in front of bulldozers will receive an appropriate response from the people.”
“It is unfortunate that the AAP and Congress oppose the removal of the encroachment at Shaheen Bagh. I urge them not to link the encroachment to religion,” Gupta said.
Speaking about his letter to the people of Delhi, Gupta said any concerns he expressed there had come true. “In the letter, I said that AAP MPs congratulate Bangladeshis and Rohingyas for getting Id and Aadhar from voters, and today it came true,” Gupta said.
The BJP-led North Delhi Municipal Corporation had also waged an anti-encroachment campaign in Jahangirpuri after a riot broke out in the area during the Hanuman Jayanti procession last month. The campaign was halted after the Supreme Court ordered the civic body to maintain the status quo.
