Coeducational studies can help students become more compassionate and break through stereotypical gender boundaries.
On August 28, Vellappally Natesan, a Kerala leader of the Hindu Ezhava community, said, “Girls and boys sitting together in classrooms goes against Indian culture and breeds anarchy.” He was responding to a question posed by the media regarding the gender neutral policy for uniforms.
Natesan also said, “We (SNDP) are not in favor of girls and boys sitting together in classrooms. We have our own culture. We don’t live in America or England.
He also said that our culture does not allow girls and boys to sit together or kiss. “You don’t see this happening in the educational institutions of Muslims and Christians,” he added.
Although the leader is entitled to his opinions, he cannot expect anyone else to respect them. We have listed six reasons why co-education is good for students as well as for society.

A classroom full of students of all gender identities promotes socialization. These people can grow up to speak with more sensitivity towards others and interact without feeling uncomfortable in the company of another gender.

Whether a student decides to study abroad or not, coeducational study can help prepare them for a larger world beyond their classrooms, where people of all genders coexist. It can help them become more compassionate friends, colleagues, employers, bosses, and human beings.
Even though we live in 2022, we still haven’t moved beyond regressive constructions on gender roles. We have to do better than that, we have to choose better leaders and be the best version of ourselves.
